Southeast Community Development Corporation
The Southeast Community Development Corporation (SECDC) was founded in 1973 as Southeast Development, Inc. (SDI), by SECO, the Southeast Community Organization. SECO was formed to empower the neighborhoods of Southeast Baltimore by organizing around common quality of life issues, the foremost being the construction of a new Interstate Highway along the waterfront of Southeast Baltimore. SDI began its life by developing and construction community facilities as a grocery store, but quickly began to focus on housing, becoming a steady producer of affordable housing throughout the eighties and nineties.
SECDC operates a number of community revitalization programs in the Highlandtown area such as the Highlandtown Main Street District and the Highlandtown Arts and Entertainment District, and we partner with Healthy Neighborhoods, Inc. on four neighborhoods in SE Baltimore, including Greektown, Highlandtown and Patterson Park. Recently, with the assistance of the Baltimore Regional Neighborhood Initiative, we have begun working in the CARE, McElderry Park, and Madison East-End neighborhoods.
SECDC operates as one of the premier HUD approved non-profit housing counseling agencies in the Baltimore Metropolitan area. We offer full service financial and housing counseling services in English and Spanish.
